Unable to synthesize Omega-3 fatty acids, we as mammals require them and the nutrients needed to make more complex fatty acids from our diet. Omega-3 fatty acids are critical for us to function normally as they are required for a series of different functions including the formation of steroid hormones and nerves. There are 3 different omega-3 fatty acids involved in our physiology; alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) , eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA); with the latter 2 being the two most important ones. Although we are unable to synthesize fatty acids on our own, we can use the shorter chain ALA to synthesize the two very important EPA and DHA omega-3s. However, a lot of people don't receive enough Omega-3s for them to have maximal performance and health. Since Omega-3 fatty acids are critical in so many different physiological processes, not receiving enough daily intake can result in fatigue, dry skin, heart problems, depression, mood swings, poor circulation, and poor memory. This is why we formulated our omega-3 fish oils to be packed with 1200mg of Fish Oil harvested from sea pelagic fish per capsule and thoroughly tested to be free of any impurities or toxins. This formula is constructed to contain high amounts of the fatty acids that are in the most limiting amounts in your body: 720mg of EPA+DHA!
Formulated with 1200mg of Fish Oil per capsule, consisting of 720mg of EPA+DHA, this formula ensures you receive all the benefits associated with maximum omega 3 levels. In order to understand why supplementing with this will produce the benefits we've discussed, lets take a look at each individual fatty acid more closely:
Alpha-Linolenic Acid(ALA): one of two essential fatty acids (the other being linolenic acid, our body requires this building block fatty acid from our diet. It is an 18 carbon chain with 3 cis double bonds that is only produced by plants and are found in seeds, nuts, and vegetable oils. It's unique structure allows our body to use ALA to synthesize the other 2 omega-3 fatty acids that actually play a large role in our physiological pathways; EPA+DHA. Since conversion of ALA to these fatty acids are limited, we have just cut straight to the chase by standardizing our Fish Oils to high EPA+DHA concentrations.
Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Their Health Benefits.
"Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) include α-linolenic acid (ALA; 18:3 ω-3), stearidonic acid (SDA; 18:4 ω-3), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5 ω-3), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA; 22:5 ω-3), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; 22:6 ω-3). In the past few decades, many epidemiological studies have been conducted on the myriad health benefits of omega-3 PUFAs. In this review, we summarized the structural features, properties, dietary sources, metabolism, and bioavailability of omega-3 PUFAs and their effects on cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, depression, visual and neurological development, and maternal and child health"
Omega-3 Fatty Acids and their Role in Central Nervous System - A Review.
"Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are crucial for our health and wellbeing; therefore, they have been widely investigated for their roles in maintaining human health and in disease treatment. Most Western diets include significant amount of saturated and omega-6 fatty acids and insufficient quantity of omega-3; however, the balance between omega-6 and omega-3 PUFA, in particular, is essential for the formation of pro- and anti-inflammatory lipids to promote health and prevent disease. As our daily diet affects our health, this paper draws attention to unique representatives of the omega-3 fatty acid group: alpha-linolenic acid and its derivatives. Recently, this has been shown to be effective in treating and preventing various diseases. It has been confirmed that omega-3 PUFAs may act as therapeutic agents as well and their significant role against inflammatory diseases, such as cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, has been described. Some of nutritional factors have been described as a significant modifiers, which can influence brain elasticity and thus, effect on central nervous system functioning. Therefore, appropriate dietary management appears to be a non-invasive and effective approach to counteract neurological and cognitive disorders."
Roles of unsaturated fatty acids (especially omega-3 fatty acids) in the brain at various ages and during ageing.
"Consequently, fatty acids that are essential for the brain are arachidonic acid and cervonic acid, derived from the diet, unless they are synthesized by the liver from linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid. The age-related reduction of hepatic desaturase activities (which participate in the synthesis of long chains, together with elongases) can impair turnover of cerebral membranes. In many structures, especially in the frontal cortex, a reduction of cervonic and arachidonic acids is observed during ageing, predominantly associated with a reduction of phosphatidylethanolamines (mainly in the form of plasmalogens). Peroxisomal oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids decreases in the brain during ageing, participating in decreased turnover of membrane fatty acids, which are also less effectively protected against peroxidation by free radicals."
